Launch of BibliMags service
Digital magazines in Canadian libraries
Montreal, December 14, 2017 – BIBLIOPRESTO.CA, created by the leading players in the world of public libraries, is pleased to announce the launch of the BibliMagsTM digital magazine reading service for members of participating libraries in Canada.
The service, available on biblimags.ca and via the “BibliMags” app on iTunes and Google Play, is free for end users through a paid subscription from their local library to BibliMagsTM.
At a time when print media is particularly in need of new revenue, BibliMagsTM provides an important new opportunity for Canadian publishers. In a concerted approach with the community, BibliMagsTM business model aims to be fair between all actors in the digital chain, with a complete distribution of revenues. This is precisely what commercial solutions on the market do not have today.
Another major difference in the offering, BibliMagsTM does not focus its offer only on some flagship titles, but promotes diversity and rich local content. To do this, BibliMagsTM introduces an innovative business model: instead of presenting a limited selection of magazines to the end user, a vast choice of 4,000 titles in more than 25 languages, including 100 Canadian titles, is available and the end user decides what to read. Revenue from each reading are then distributed according to usage.
The marketing will be done in several stages during the year 2018. Already, nearly 500 libraries have subscribed to the Discovery offer, which allows them to familiarize with BibliMagsTM. We are now going to strengthen the French-language content of Quebec and Europe, which should be completed within the next months.
“We expect that BibliMagsTM’s success and membership rate will be similar to that of our PRETNUMERIQUE.CA ebook service used by over 1,000 libraries in Quebec and New Brunswick. This represents 400,000 users and over $9.5 million in revenue for publishers and authors.” Jean-François Cusson, General Manager of BIBLIOPRESTO.CA
BibliMagsTM technology solutions and service is powered by Magzter, Inc., a world-renowned partner in the digital magazine space, who also delivers digital content to BibliMagsTM.
